I. Analysis of Chrome Ore Characteristics and Mining Difficulties

The open-pit lateritic chromite ore in Zimbabwe is affected by long-term weathering, with a large amount of clay and argillaceous impurities mixed in the raw ore. If it is directly subjected to separation, the high clay content will seriously worsen the beneficiation indicators, making it difficult to meet the grade standards of the concentrate.

II. Changyi Customized Chromite Ore Beneficiation Process

In response to the special characteristics of this ore, the Changyi Mining Machine technical team has abandoned the traditional single beneficiation mode and designed a combined process flow of "washing ore and dewatering + spiral chute gravity separation + magnetic separation and concentration."

1. Efficient washing and dewatering to clear the separation obstacles

Firstly, an efficient screening and washing equipment is introduced to screen and clean the raw ore. Through the trommel screen and high-pressure water flushing, the mud and clay on the surface of the ore are completely stripped off. This step effectively reduces the viscosity of the pulp, creating a good fluid environment for the subsequent gravity separation.

2. Changyi Spiral Chute, Core Gravity Separation and Purification

As the core equipment of this project, Changyi Mining Machinery provides multiple high-performance glass fiber reinforced plastic spiral chutes. In response to the particle size characteristics of the Zimbabwean chrome ore, we have adopted a scheme of 720mm and 540mm high and low-speed matching in the spiral pitch design of the chute.

During the separation process, the properly concentrated slurry is transported to the top of the spiral chute by the slurry pump. In the rotating inclined surface flow, the slurry is subjected to the comprehensive effects of gravity, centrifugal force, and water flow impact. The chrome iron ore particles with higher density accumulate towards the inner side of the chute, while the lighter density silicate gangue is ejected to the outer side and discharged. The Changyi Spiral Chute, with its stable separation process, no need for power, large processing capacity, and easy installation, meets the local demand for the enrichment of fine-grained (0.3-0.02mm) chrome iron ore.

3. Magnetic separation assistance, further upgrading of concentrate quality

After the chrome concentrate obtained through spiral chute roughing and cleaning is further purified by the wet magnetic separators, the proportion of silicon in the concentrate is further reduced, ensuring that the final chrome ore meets high-quality standards.

Actual beneficiation experiment data shows that this process not only effectively solves the problem of treating high mud content ore but also stabilizes the grade of chrome concentrate to over 45%, with some batches even reaching higher standards.

The design is a combination of 720mm and 540mm pitch, where the ore pulp is accurately stratified within the chute under the action of gravity and centrifugal force, effectively enriching the 0.02-0.3mm micro-fine grade chromite.
